I second the Slackware endorsement;
I have it running on 2 older machines. It is extremely stable and comes with
many packages (if you so choose).
As an added bonus, you will learn a lot more about Linux when you choose a
distro like Slackware, as it requires you to do a little reading up and
hand-configuring of your system.
Well worth the extra effort - my 2 cents.
