Tim,
In your situation, CD #1 is probably all you will need from Slackware.
Also, if you're going to run X Windows, I strongly recommend a light Window
Manager like Fluxbox -
otherwise, on a system like yours you'll spend more time waiting than using
it.
One other thing, when you install Slackware, if you choose the manual
package selection with descriptions, it will take a bit of time, but you'll
learn quite a bit from reading what each package is and what it does.
