If it is a name resolution issue, then using the IP address to a website
http://216.109.112.135/ (Yahoo error page) should resolve very quickly.
You should try doing a trace route on the windows machine and the linux box
to the same URL and see if there is a difference in response times.
What is the value of "/etc/hosts"
What is the value of "/etc/resolv.conf"
What is the value of "iptables -L"
What is the value of "iptables --table filter -L"
What is the value of "iptables --table nat -L"
What is the value of "iptables --table mangle -L"
What is the value of "nmap localhost"
You may have a bad nic.

Subject: Re: [Discuss] firefox question
Since my last post I uninstalled FF 1.5.... and installed the latest, FF
2.0.0.1. That made no difference in performance. The Windows machine on the
same network is fine so I think it must be a setting on the core5 install. I
don't know anything about domain name servers etc. but could this be some
kind of name resolution problem?
I'll try the FTP etc and see how it is for speed etc.
Thanks.
Peter.
