I had to do this last fall. I purchased a USB enclosure from NCIX and the 
added a 320 GB drive to it for another $109. It was a Seagate Barracuda 7200 
rpm drive, and a VanTec enclosure. The enclosure was about 60 bucks.

Both gave me no Linux issues. I even reformatted the drive as ext3.
